It’s official!  I’ve published another travel book – “A View Junkie’s Guide to Dayhiking Washington” by Anne Whiting!  This one takes day hikers to Washington, where (per the back cover) they can experience some of the best scenery Washington has to offer… “from the towering cone of Mt. Baker to the grassy Summer Blossom ridgeline… from the beaches and sea stacks of Olympic National Park to the meadows of Mt. Rainier National Park… and from the craggy canyons and lakes of North Cascades National Park to the rugged, nearly unknown Teanaway Peaks.”

Sound a bit idyllic?  Perhaps it is.  But honestly, Washington is one of my favorite states for mountain views (rivaled only by Colorado, and honestly, the two are so different, they’re hard to compare).  I see the pictures come up on the desktop of my computer and oh, it still takes my breath away!  There’s just something about the Cascades that are so unique, so beautiful, so rugged, and so worth visiting.

I’ve hiked every trail that’s detailed in this book – that’s 32 hikes.  I also suggest about 60 other hikes, things that either 1) I hiked and didn’t think were worth putting in a “view junkie” book, but are still nice trails, or 2) are things I haven’t hiked yet, but are on my bucket list for the next time I get to visit the area!

The hikes are in the Mt. Baker Wilderness, North Cascades National Park, Olympic National Park, Mt. Rainier National Park, and some less-known areas including Summer Blossom and the Teanaway (never heard of them?  Neither had I until the day before we left for Washington I found out every single hike I had planned was snowed in – wta.com to the rescue!).

I also included a few new features suggested by friends and fellow hikers – including road ratings (what’s more annoying than thinking you can just drive to the trailhead in your Camry only to find out it’s a 4×4 road?) and suggestions for early season hiking.  The book has GPS coordinates, detailed directions to the trailhead, topo maps, etc.  I also included a list my favorite hikes, just for fun.
