It’s the beginning of 2023! I had so many surprising adventures in 2022; things that I had never dreamed about seriously suddenly sprang into being at unexpected moments. Highlights of the year included visiting two new (to me!) national parks in the eastern US in August, chasing waterfalls in Pennsylvania in September, relaxing at the beach in North Carolina in October, and taking a very cold and very beautiful trip to the Maze District of Canyonlands in November. Talk about a beautifully packed fall!
As usual, the top-performing posts on Anne’s Travels are fairly consistent from last year with a few notable exceptions: Driver’s Permit Laws, Hiking Hairstyles, The Best Day Hikes in the Wind River Range, visiting the King of Wings, Bible Verses for Hikers (a new one), States with 85 vs. 87 Octane Gas, The Best Hikes in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, etc. Since these are typical from year to year, I’ll be detailing below the most popular pages on Anne’s Travels in 2022 – but only the ones I published in the last 18 months. Enjoy!
Bible Verse for Hikers
I’m super excited that this one made the list! I had no idea it would bless so many people. Read Bible Verses for Hikers.
The National Parks, Ranked by Scenery
This is totally my biased opinion, but ranking the national parks was fun! View the Most Scenic National Parks.
Devils Hole & Whirlpool State Parks
I loved this hike! Hiking along the Niagara River to the rapids and the Whirlpool was an amazing experience. Discover Devils Hole & Whirlpool State Parks.
Indian Pass & Summit Rock
On a rainy morning, we set out to Indian Pass and Summit Rock. Most of the hike was in the woods, but the views from the rock of Wallface Mountain were spectacular! See Indian Pass & Summit Rock.
Bible Verses for Rock Climbers
Since my readers enjoyed the Bible Verses for Hikers so much, I decided to add another post specifically for rock climbers! Read Bible Verses for Rock Climbers.
Best Hikes near Rochester, New York
I’ve hiked extensively in and near Rochester, New York, so it seemed right to make an entire post about my favorites! Explore the Best Hikes in and near Rochester, New York.
Kayaking Honeoye Creek
I actually have an update to add this post, but it’s still a good guide if you want a creek walk/kayak not far from Rochester, New York. Learn about Kayaking Honeoye Creek.
Hiking Itineraries for Glacier National Park
Sometimes it’s nice to sit down and figure out how to visit all of the best trails in a park – and decide if you can realistically see it all! I’ve done the hard work for you on this one. See my hiking itineraries in Glacier.
Lover’s Leap
Even better than some of the viewpoints along the Blue Ridge Parkway, this is a great little stop with three overlooks. Explore Lover’s Leap Overlooks.
Ring Arch
Ring arch is one of the lesser-known spans in Arches National Park, but it’s still beautiful (if you don’t mind a bit of off-trail hiking!) Figure out how to find Ring Arch.
Paddling Irondequoit Creek
Taking a kayak trip on Irondequoit Creek has been on my “to-do” list for some time… and we finally did it! Read about paddling Irondequoit Creek.
Catharine Valley Trail
A lovely little ride out of Watkins Glen, New York, the Catherine Valley Trail follows the route of an old canal and railroad grade. I visited just as the fall colors were starting for even more beauty along the way. Explore the Catherine Valley Trail.
The Frank Ruggles I Knew
I was devastated on July 4, 2021 when I heard that my friend and fellow photographer, Frank Ruggles, had passed away. I did a little tribute to him and his influence on my photography. You can read the tribute here.
Santanoni Peak
My very first Adirondack 46er was a crazy one! The “trail” was little more than a rock scramble route with mud between the rocks. The views were pretty good from the top even if it was cloudy. Find the trail guide to Santanoni Peak.
Photographing Sunrise at the Alabama Hills
It was totally worth climbing out of my warm sleeping bag to see sunrise on the Alabama Hills! Mt. Whitney, the constellation Orien, and the beauty of the new day were all fantastic. Discover more about the Alabama Hills at sunrise.
Here’s to a fantastic 2023!
