Kayaking at the inlet to Honeoye Lake, New York

Kayaking at the inlet to Honeoye Lake

A couple weeks ago, we rented a cottage on Honeoye Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in central New York State (it’s pronounced Honey-oye).  The sun rarely came out all week (despite the changing leaf colors), but we made up for it with fun: hiking, walking, kayaking, playing games, making s’mores and campfire donuts, playing card games, and just hanging out.

It wasn’t a “typical” trip in terms of hiking, but we did get out a couple days for hikes, and I took enough pictures.  So here are some of my favorite pictures from the trip.  Enjoy!

We did drive over to Canandiagua Lake one day (about 30 minutes away) to hike up Barnes Gully.  It was an interesting walk because you’re down in the creekbed (and at those temperatures you want to keep your feet dry!)  We also had to scale two major waterfalls.  But it was so beautiful.

I also decided to do some night photography.  My camera isn’t exactly made for it, but I wasn’t too disappointed with the results.

We also went up to Harret Hollister State Park (it’s on a dirt road!) at the head of the lake.  The views of the lake were great (despite the clouds) and we also hiked (walked, really) to an old foundation, with an old water tank and a few old cabins around it.

Overall, we had a great time of being together, despite some less-than-pristine weather.  We even saw a huge, vivid rainbow over the lake one day while kayaking, but I didn’t have a camera with me, so you’ll just have to believe me that it was one of the most vivid I’ve ever seen in New York!

This Week’s Featured Product!

These are the kayaks we purchased.  They’re great; review coming soon is now here!
