The other day, I was walking through a local park when I came to a sign next to a gate. “Authorized Vehicles Only,” said the sign. Without a second thought, I walked around the gate and continued on my hike.
It wasn’t that I was disregarding the sign or the rules that required the sign to be put in place. But I’ve hiked in those woods since was little, and I know that the sign doesn’t apply to hikers. I’m already authorized to continue hiking because I’m not classified as a vehicle.
Before we were saved, we were classified as “sinners”. Under that classification, we couldn’t come near to God. In effect, the sign outside of heaven said, “Authorized Vehicles Only”. Without Christ, we are definitely classified as unauthorized vehicles.
But after we accept Christ’s blood on our behalf, our classification changed. Not only are we now considered authorized to get into heaven, but we also have the classification and authorization to have relationship with God.
The writer of Hebrews put it, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace” (4:16). We can be bold because through Christ we have become, to put it one way, Authorized Vehicles.
We are also authorized, under the blood of Christ, to be “Christians” or “Little Christs” here on earth. We are authorized to have access to the power and authority that Jesus had on earth. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father” (John:14:12).
You and I are authorized to do as Jesus would have done. He even set up things in advance for us to do: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). It’s our classification, our job even, to use our authorization under the blood of Christ here on earth.
